About EMRTCThe Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) is known worldwide for its research and evaluation of explosive materials.
EMRTC is a division of New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech). New Mexico Tech specializes in science and engineering education and research. EMRTC is located on the New Mexico Tech campus in Socorro, New Mexico.
EMRTC tests explosives on its 40 square mile field testing lab. This lab allows researchers to:
- Detonate up to 20,000 pounds of explosives
- Test gun-fired projectiles up to three miles
- Provide test services for weapons systems
- Conduct ordnance tests for the government and aerospace industry
NDPC MemberEMRTC/New Mexico Tech is a proud member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium. NDPC is a partnership of public universities and the U.S. Departments of Justice and Energy.
NDPC supports the efforts of the Office of Domestic Preparedness (ODP) by providing emergency response training. Training is:
- Focused on preparing for and responding to weapons of mass destruction and terrorism
- Available to state and local first responders
- Presented through case studies and hands-on field exercises
- Available in several formats - classroom, field-based, or online
EMRTC is the lead NDPC partner for explosives and firearms, live explosives, and incendiary devices training.
