Operational-Level IRTB Course Prerequisites
- To participate in the Operational-Level Incident Response to Terrorist Bombing (IRTB) course, you must be an emergency responder who responds to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) incidents involving explosives.
- Operational-Level firefighters include hazardous material responders, front-line investigators, specialized medical and rescue personnel, training officers, bomb technicians, and supervisors and managers responsible for preparing their departments to respond to WMD incidents.
- Law enforcement officers include members of police tactical units, investigators, training officers, bomb technicians, forensic technicians and scientists, and supervisors and managers responsible for preparing their departments to respond to WMD incidents.
- Other emergency first responders with a demonstrated need for this training include, for example, emergency medical personnel. If you fit in this category, you must submit written justification explaining why you qualify for this training to your State Point of Contact.
Note: EMRTC will verify your position and responsibilities with your department or agency. Please bring a photo ID to present before the course begins.
- In addition, you must also:
- Have substantial experience at your agency in positions beyond entry level.
- Be assigned to a position responsible for conducting WMD training, providing specialized response support during WMD incidents, or coordinating initial response to a WMD incident.
- Have sufficient tenure remaining to apply your training.
- Have completed an instructor training program and/or have documented experience as a trainer in an emergency response organization if you desire trainer certification.
